Snead, Ellett Graham

Ellett Graham Snead of Fork Union, Virginia, left this earth for his new home in heaven on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.  As most of you know, Ellett was confined to a wheelchair since age 24, and when he slipped from this world to his heavenly residence we know that he was running with pure delight and joy all over the streets of heaven.  Ellett was born August 12, 1956, to the late Ellett McGeorge (Mac) Snead, Jr. and Mildred Jacqueline Davidson Snead.  He is survived by his adoring wife of 33 years,Rosetta K. Snead; his beloved sister, Kathy Snead Anderson and her husband, Steve; his sister-in-laws, Susan Ringwood, Cindy Knightand Ellen Johnson; brother-in-law and best friend, Andy Johnson; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many other family members too numerous to name.

Ellett was a phenomenal musician.  If it had strings he could play it, but his first love was the banjo.  Later he taught himself to play the piano and led praise and worship at the church he loved, Open Door Church.  Ellett was administrator of Open Door Christian School for many years as well as a teacher.  He loved math and computer and enjoyed challenging his high school students with his unique perspectives.  Ellett loved Jesus Christ with all his heart and after retirement spent many hours reading his Bible and in prayer.  One of his last journal entries reads as follows, “Still praying and studying the Word, endeavoring to hear and grow and fulfill all of God’s will for us.”  Weknow Ellett has a great reward in heaven.

Despite his disability, Ellett loved life.  He always had a positive attitude and was such an inspiration to all he met.  Everyone that met him in the hospital remarked that he was a favorite patient and how sweet he was.  He loved to hunt and fish with his daddy whom he was so close to.  He loved playing Mario Kart and spending time with his buddies, Cameron and Tim.  I know I speak for all of us, Ellett, we can’t wait to see you dancing when we are all united together for eternity.  We love you and miss you so much.

There will be a short, private graveside service on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 3 p.m. followed by a memorial service at a later time, which we invite everyone to attend at Open Door Church in Troy, Virginia (date to be announced).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the church Ellett loved, Open Door Church, P.O. Box 970, Troy, VA 22974.

Finally, thanks to everyone for your endless prayers, support, love and concern during such a difficult time.  We love and appreciate each one of you so much, and if Ellett had a message for you today it would be to make sure you do not leave this Earth without being born again and knowing Jesus Christ as your Savior.

Arrangements are being handled by Sheridan Funeral Home in Kents Store, Virginia.

  1. We knew Ellettsville many years ago, before we moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1985. He was kind, gentle, strong in the faith, and a friend. We lost touch over the years, and were trying to find a way to contact him when we learned of his passing. May God be with his loved ones until we are all united on that Great Day!!
