Elnor Bishop Buck

ELNOR BISHOP BUCK, age 94, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2023, in Louisa due to natural causes. Born in Rivanna, Albemarle County, Virginia to Ashley Bell Melton Bishop and Walter Emmett Bishop, Elnor attended school in Louisa County and graduated from Louisa County High School in June of 1947. She excelled in Home Economics and used those skills for the rest of her life. After graduation, Elnor moved to Charlottesville and embarked upon a career with Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Co., where she met the love of her life, Cary Richard Buck. After meeting her, Cary remarked, “I’m going to marry her!” And he was right - Cary and Elnor married in 1949. Elnor took time off from employment to raise her two children, Alison, and David, and was always active in their school functions. Elnor returned to the telephone company in 1963 and remained there until her retirement. It was during her retirement that she discovered her talent for painting watercolors. It became a passion that she maintained for the rest of her years. Elnor’s true happiness in life was her husband, children, grandchildren, and all her family. She was absolutely and steadfastly devoted to all of them. She never missed a birthday or special occasion, and often would help commemorate with the most delicious food. Life was pure joy for Elnor especially when her grandchildren David and Jason visited. A favorite past time for Elnor were annual visits to the beach. In later years the destination was the Outer Banks, and she always anticipated getting her toes in the sand with her family. Elnor was a beautiful woman who approached life with boundless energy, excellence, and a wonderful sense of humor. Her husband Cary used to say she went full speed ahead every day until it was time to rest. Elnor is survived by her children Carey Alison Waite (John) and David Brian Buck (Patricia), grandchildren David Anthony Buck (Brian Gilbert) and Jason Beach (Jonathan Bugeja). She is survived by her sister-in-law Lillie Mae Bishop, brother-in-law David Carroll Buck, her nieces: Virginia B. Edwards (Arthur), Stephanie D. Bickers, Jerry A. Herron (Alex), Elizabeth B. Brockwell (Troy), and her nephews: Michael W. Perkins (Connie), James R. Bishop, Herbert A. Moore Jr. (Nancy), Cary D. Buck (Marie), Larry K. Buck (Joyce) and her special and loving friends Elmer and Joyce Roberts. Elnor is preceded in death by her husband Cary Richard Buck, father Walter Emmet Bishop, Mother Ashley Bell Melton Bishop, brother Arthur B. Bishop, and sisters: Dorothy B. Brookman and Dora Lee B. Perkins. In lieu of funeral services, the family will have a memorial visitation at Sheridan Funeral Home, 4626 Cedar Lane Road, Kents Store on Saturday March 18, 2023, between the hours of 5-7pm.
