E. (Lancaster) Mulligan Bittner.
He was a
lso preceded in death by his wife,
Edith “Edie” (Maiers) Mulligan; son

, Wayne Mulligan and Charles Mulligan; and brothers, Vernon and Thomas Mulligan.

Mr.
Mulligan attended Ridgeley High School
. H
e
joined the Marine
s
in his early 20
’
s where he fought on the island of Iwo Jima and
witnessed the raising of the American flag.
Mr. Mulligan retired from the Western M
aryland Railroad, where he had been a
b
rakeman
.
He enjoye
d
hunting
,
fishing
and
baseball,
the Pittsburgh Pirates being his favor
ite
.
He bel
onged to the United Transportation Union, F
ort Ashby Post #6667, VFW,
a lifetime member of the Ridgeley Volunte
er
Fire Company, a lifetime member of
the Cumberland Outdoor Club
, and a member of the Western
Ma
ryland
Marine Corp
s
League
.
While living in Virginia with his daughter he enjoyed
several
vi
sits to the Marine
Corp
Museum
in
Quantico. Especially the one celebrating the Marine Corp
’
s
Birthda
y where he was the oldest Marine present and received the first piece of bi
rthday cake. He also had the hon
or of passin
g the second
piece of cake to the youngest Marine present. He wa
s
also
s
o
honor
ed to have met
in person,
Virginia
’
s Governor and Lt. Governor
.

him. He so enjoyed and looked forward t

Mr. Mulligan will be cremated.
