Phillip Gardell Payne

Phillip Gardell Payne, 72, departed this Earthly life and entered into eternal rest on July 10, 2020 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born September 26, 1 947 in Palmyra, VA to the late Lawrence L. and Virginia M. Payne. He was a dedicated and loving husband of 38 years, devoted father, loving grandfather and great grandfather, and an affectionate person with a true spirit of love. Phillip was a member of The Haden Chapel United Methodist Church in Palmyra, VA. He had a love for Rhythm & Blues and always had a gift of spreading joy and laughter.

Phillip is preceded in death by six brothers and six s isters. He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife, Sandra Payne ; four sons, C. D. Jasper, Gerald Gregory, Scott Bauchman and Phillip Gardell Payne II ; one daughter, Martina Payne ; two stepdaughters, Carlitha M. Giles and Vallarie A. Johnson ; two son-in-law's and two daughter-in-law' s; f our brothers, Theodore Payne, James Payne, Charles Payne and Lloyd Martin, Sr. ; one sister , Pearl Greene ; 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Family viewing will be July 16, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sheridan Funeral Home located in Kents Store, VA. Graveside Funeral services will be held on July 17, 2020 at 2pm at the family home located at 143 Martin Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963. Interment will follow at the family cemetery.
