Aurelia Griffin

Aurelia Winston Griffin, 91, of Fork Union, Virginia, passed away on October 11^th at Sunrise Villa Tuckahoe surrounded by family.

Gladys Aurelia was born in Goochland County, VA, the daughter of the late Grace and Edward Winston. She is preceded in death by her husband Homer Paul Griffin. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother “Nana,” and great-grandmother.

Aurelia is survived by her three sons and their families: Scott Griffin (Sally Palmquist) of Annapolis, MD, and grandson Andrew Griffin of Denver, CO; Mark Griffin (Deborah) of Alexandria, VA and grandson, Brian (Emma Buck) and great-grandson Oliver of Richmond, VA, and grandson Kevin Griffin of Alexandria, VA; and Steve Griffin (Lynn Frost) of Charlottesville, VA.

A devoted family woman, Aurelia loved nothing more than visits with her grandchildren, art classes, playing cards, and doing a puzzle. She was an accomplished painter who shared her gift with friends and family. She was a good friend to many. She enjoyed traveling with family, friends, and work cohorts.

She was a member of the Fork Union Presbyterian Church, The Fluvanna Historical Society, The National Association of Postmasters US, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, The Daughters of the American Revolution, and The United Daughters of the Confederacy.  She was employed by the US Postal Service for 29 years, 19 of which serving as the Postmaster of Fork Union, VA.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 15th, at 2:00p.m. at Fork Union Presbyterian Church, 4464 James Madison Highway, Fork Union with interment to immediately follow at Fork Union Memorial Cemetery, James Madison Highway, Fork Union.

A reception will take place at Fork Union Presbyterian Church as a time for family and friends to celebrate Aurelia's extraordinary life together.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who prefer may make a memorial contribution to the Fork Union Presbyterian Church or Fluvanna County Rescue Squad.
