Gladys Cavanaugh, caring mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother of many peacefully entered into eternal rest on September 25, 2019, following an extended illness at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie M. Cavanaugh-Jackson, Sister Helen Lopez and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Christian Cavanaugh.
Gladys was born January 12, 1922 in Fluvanna County to Hattie L. Cavanaugh. Gladys
was the most selfless, caring and loving person you could ever meet. She trusted God and always spoke her mind. Her love of family and friends was always expressed whether through her generosity or acts of service. Her beaming presence and spirit will be greatly missed but always cherished.
Gladys is survived by her devoted daughter, Sonja Cavanaugh, five grandchildren: Tammy (Robert Harvey) Cavanaugh, Devonia (Tony) Love, Thaddeus Cavanaugh, Talia Cavanaugh and Ashleigh Cavanaugh and 13 great-grandchildren. As a mother and grandmother, she was nurturing, loving, kind, understanding, and supportive. She was equally proud of each of her 5 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, seeing them as individuals and supporting them.
The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. Chris Moore and his medical team, as well the nurses on 3 East and the caretakers for providing excellent professional care, rendering tremendous support and displaying comforting compassion.
A visitation will be held at the Sheridan Funeral Home, 6093 Venable Road Kent Store, Virginia 23084 on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 12 - 8 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Lake Christian Baptist Church 733 S Boston Road, Palmyra, VA, with the Reverend Martin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow at the Payne Cemetery located at 15400 James Madison HWY, Palmyra, Virginia. Repass will be 5:30 – 7:30 pm at Fluvanna County Fire Department, James Madison HWY, Palmyra, VA.Condolences may be offered, and memories can be shared with the family online at the Sheridan Funeral home.
