Charles Edward Walton, Jr.

Charles “CJ” Edward Walton, Jr., 44, of Richmond passed away on Wednesday, February 5th, 2025. He was born on July 3, 1980, to the late Charles E. Walton, and Linda Walton. He is survived by his mother Linda Walton, sister Tracey Williamson, brother David Walton, and sidekick puggle Maggie.

CJ was very intelligent. He had the gift of being a fast learner who could think outside the box and fix just about anything; so smart that, at times, he would get bored of one challenge and move on to another. In his youth, he took his SATs at thirteen years old and scored over 1200, was part of a world champion Odyssey of the Mind (OM) team, and took apart engines (successfully putting them back together) amongst other things. He found himself unchallenged in high school and decided to leave early when offered a full scholarship to college. He graduated from Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Massachusetts with a B.S. in biochemistry at age nineteen. While presented with what most would consider attractive career options, CJ once again thought outside of the box and, for the next decade-plus, worked at Gould Farm in Monterey, Massachusetts, a residential therapeutic community. There, he helped residents learn the ropes of farm work and fine-tuned an artisan baking program that served the surrounding community. Gould Farm was CJ’s home and family for much of his adult life. He was a Certified Auto Mechanic, a pastry chef with training from the Culinary Institute of America, and a repair technician for restaurant equipment, specializing in water quality and coffee roasting. CJ loved gardening, raising ducks, kayaking, and reading. While always ready to debate the finer points of life, he was also a true “Walton,” stubborn as a mule at times.

CJ will be missed for his willingness to give a hand to those in need, explain why something didn’t work, and his true kind heartedness towards others.

A visitation and celebration of CJ’s life will be held at 3pm on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Kitchen 33 in Glen Allen. This will be a time to share your memories of CJ, have a bite to eat, and fellowship with friends and family.
