On Friday, March 24, 2023, Joe Chiang took his final flight.
Chu-Shih Joe Chiang was born on June 17, 1961, in Taiwan and moved to Canada at a young age with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Shiao Hang Chiang and mother, Shu Yun Chang. He is survived by his wife, Kelley Chiang, who was the lucky recipient of his unconditional love for 20 years, his sister Anne Chiang and husband James Chow, and his nieces Chanel and Jaqueline who he adored.
Joe began his love of flying as a boy, it became his passion and purpose. He succeeded in his lifelong dream to become a pilot. He learned how to fly at Seneca College then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served for nine years. Joe flew for Canadian Regional Airlines then joined United Airlines where he flew for 25 years.
Joe was known worldwide for his friendly personality, smiling face, and genuine character. He maintained friendships with people from all facets of his life: University, Seneca, Military, United Airlines, Orient Thai, and Viva Macau.
Official Motto of the Royal Canadian Air Force: “Sic Itur ad Astra” which means “Such is the pathway to the stars.”
Joe’s favorite charity was Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation if anyone would like to make a donation in his honor.
A memorial service will be held at Beulah Baptist Church, 1633 Kents Store Way, Kents Store, Virginia, on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 3:00pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 375, 233 Centre Street East, Richmond Hill, Ontario L4C 1A7.
