Clayton, Mary Louise Flynn, 76, of Goochland County, VA, went home to be with our Lord on July 3, 2022. Mary was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 14, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wendell P. B. Flynn and Verna Suydam Flynn. She was married to John T. Clayton for 37 years. She was a loving mother to her children, Michael Gamage, Rachel Hubley (Erik) and Jason Gamage (Michelle); grandmother to grandchildren, Ellen, Adora, Mason and Carter; and sister to Elizabeth Flynn. She also had many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Mary was a graduate of Huguenot Academy in Powhatan, VA. In her younger life, she enjoyed participating in pageants and won the title Miss Goochland in the 1960’s. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Cartersville, VA (where for many years enjoyed involvement in their activities, serving as altar guild and as a Sunday School Teacher) as well as a member of St. John’s Episcopal church in Columbia, VA. She was also a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution. She had various jobs during her life at the Bank of Powhatan, State Farm Insurance, Wal-Mart Pharmacy and Markel Corporation, etc. Mary was a country girl at heart, having grown up at Howard’s Neck Farm in Goochland, VA. Following her mother’s footsteps, Mary had a love for anything nature; plants, flowers, wildlife and was a bird enthusiast. She fed the birds daily and could watch them for hours referring to them as her birdies. Predominantly, however, she devoted her life to her family, all of whom she loved dearly.
