Diana Lee Creasey (née Crandall), 80, of Goochland County, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
Diana is survived by her dearly loved children: Teresa (Chris) Wilkinson, Shawn (Lisa) Creasey, Scott (Karen) Creasey, Tonia (Gene) Shevnin, and Sheriff Steven (Grace) Creasey; her cherished grandchildren: Brandi (Buck), Denver (Leanna), Kendall (Kris), John (Brittany), Lauron, Logan, Sarah, Alexander, and Ellie; and her precious great-grandchildren: Mason, Brayden, Kaylee, Sydney, Sadie, Coltyn, and Maeve. She is also survived by numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members, along with a tremendous number of special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, The Honorable Ned S. Creasey; her father, Denver Lawrence Crandall; her mother, Ruth Mildred (Majors) Crandall; and her brother, Denver Lawrence Crandall.
Diana grew up in Colchester, Illinois, where she showcased her talents in music, sports, and academics. She played the piano, was a drum majorette, excelled in basketball, and taught the accordion. After high school, she worked at Western Illinois University in Macomb, married, and eventually moved with her growing family from Illinois to Maryland before settling in Goochland County, Virginia, where she lovingly raised her five children.
Her calling was marked by a commitment to helping others. She became a registered nurse and worked in various hospitals and doctors’ offices in the Richmond area, selflessly serving her community throughout her career. She continued her education, earning a Bachelor’s degree and completing post-graduate work at Liberty University. After a lifetime of dedication to her vocation, Diana reluctantly retired from nursing at the young age of 78 but remained active in the community.
She joined Goochland Fire/Rescue's Company 3 in 1982, and by 1985, she had advanced to a Shock-Trauma Technician, becoming one of the area’s first ALS providers. She played a crucial role in leadership and training, serving as an EMT Instructor and training hundreds of EMTs. She also recruited her family into Fire-Rescue, demonstrating her passion for service.
In the 1990s, she transferred her membership to Courthouse Company 5, where she continued to organize EMT training and EMS continuing education. She served as Rescue Training Officer, coordinating both in-person and online training programs. Up until her homegoing, she was part of the interview panel for new volunteer applicants.
Her love for learning and adventure was boundless. Beyond nursing and Fire/Rescue work, she obtained her Private Investigator license and even worked a second job as an airport security guard. She loved sports and cheered on the Washington Redskins. She loved to see God’s creation, and her travels took her throughout the United States and to Israel, Egypt, England, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg, as well as on mission trips to Russia, Ukraine, and Romania.
She was a lifelong member of Salem Baptist Church, where she participated in Sunday School, Bible Study, played the piano for the "Praise Singers," volunteered for Bethlehem Walk, Children’s Church, and VBS, helped lead the youth group when her children were younger, and served as a greeter. She was lovingly known as "Mama Creasey" to many, always opening her home to her other "kids"—her children and grandchildren’s friends, coworkers, church members, deputies, dispatchers, fellow Fire/Rescue members, and anyone who needed a friend.
Above all, she was the most incredible human being in the world. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman, known for her beauty inside and out. Diana's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. She lived for the moments shared with her loved ones, cherishing every gathering and celebration. Her family was her everything, and being surrounded by them brought her immense happiness.
Despite a challenging health diagnosis in 1990, Diana maintained her faith and confidence that God had a plan for her life and would sustain her. She was resilient, facing adversity after adversity with a smile and determination. A fighter, a champion, and a true hero to those who knew her, her gentle and loving nature touched countless lives. Although she achieved many great things, she believed her greatest success and most important task was to point her family and others to Jesus. She embodied true faith through her actions, serving as a living example of devotion and unwavering belief.
Diana will be greatly missed, but her legacy will live on through her family, friends, and the positive impact her life has had on the countless lives she touched.
