Dorothy Brookman

Dorothy Dean Dennis Brookman, 95, of Bremo Bluff, passed peacefully on May 5, 2023.

Dorothy was born on July 6, 1927, to the late Shelby R. (Cootie) and Lettie Dennis. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lawrence Albert Brookman and her grandson, Charles E. Smith. She is survived by her children Ruby Smith (Charles) of Fork Union, Harry “Buck” Brookman (Virginia) of Bremo Bluff, Larry Brookman (Serena) of New Canton, her grandchildren: Kenneth Smith, Dennis Brookman (Beth), Hollie Daughtry (Pete), Keith Smith (Lauren), her granddaughter in law Paige Melton Smith, her 15 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, and nephews. Dorothy was a receptionist for Dr. J.H. Yeatman and a life-long member of Fork Union Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Fork Union Memorial Cemetery, 4218 James Madison Highway, Fork Union, Virginia. Sheridan Funeral Home will handle all arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Brookman requested that memorial contributions be made to the Fork Union Memorial Cemetery Fund, Fork Union Baptist Church, P.O. Box 67, Fork Union, VA 23055
