Frances Wessells

Frances Wessells, a beloved educator and influential figure in the world of dance, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, at the age of 105. Born on August 18, 1919, in Colorado, Frances dedicated her life to the art of dance, inspiring countless students during her tenure at the University of Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University.

She leaves behind her cherished sons, Michael Butler Wessells, Stephen Glenny Wessells, and Anthony Page Wessells, who continue to honor her legacy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Davies and HWB Davies, who undoubtedly instilled in her the values that guided her throughout her life; her first husband, John Howard Wessells, Jr., and her second husband, John Bailey. 

With grace and passion, Frances shared her talent and knowledge, nurturing both the skill and love of dance in her pupils. Her commitment to the arts and her students remains a testament to her character and influence. Frances will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and the many lives she touched through her teaching and her passion for dance. Her impact on the community and the memories held by those she inspired will endure as a lasting legacy.

Frances' life received a public celebration on her 100th birthday. A private family funeral will be held at the present time. It will please her spirit if those who remember her fondly honor her by creating a private dance with those you love.
