John Erny Perkins, Jr.

John Erny Perkins, Jr. (Sonny), 83 of Troy Virginia passed away peacefully on January 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by both of his parent John E. Perkins, Sr.  and Dorothy Hasher Perkins, and his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Lee Perkins. Sonny is survived by their son, Steven Rosser Perkins (Steve), his sister Jean Perkins Coleman (Carl) of Louisa, Virigina, his sister in law Diane P. Grubbs of Charlottesville and many other relatives and friends. Sonny graduated from Fluvanna County High School in 1958 and later from Bluefield College with a degree in Business Administration. Most of his career was spent working at Comdial in Charlottesville, from which he retired in July 2001. A life-time member of Bybee’s Road Baptist Church, Sonny served in many positions, including deacon, treasurer, teacher, committees, and wherever needed. He did lay-preaching also during his life. He was a Master Gardener and shared plentifully with family and friends. His other great joy was being “The Beagle Man”. Sonny loved his dogs and rabbit hunting with them. The family would like to thank those who have helped with visitation and healthcare during Sonny’s difficult times, including his pastor, Kenny Davis, family, and friends who helped during his last few days at home. A funeral service will be held at Bybee’s Road Baptist Church, 4989 Bybee’s Church Rd, Troy, Virginia on Friday, February 3 ^rd , 2023, at 11:00am. Interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bybee’s Road Baptist Church. Sheridan Funeral Home will handle all arrangements.
