Joy Ann Durham Painter

Joy Ann Durham Painter, 80, of Richmond, Virginia, died on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

She was born on October 28, 1944. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter E. Durham and Estelle L. Durham of Richmond, Virginia, her husband William F. “Bill” Painter, Jr. and her daughter April Joy Dilday Lassiter. 

Joy is survived by her son J.E. Dilday, Jr. (Mary), stepson Scott Painter; three grandchildren, Madison Lee Dilday, Keith Lassiter (Lauren), Sarah L. Roebuck (Josh), one great-granddaughter, Kinley Lassiter and one great grandson, Kaison Roebuck. 

Joy retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections, later years during her retirement, she worked with the Senate Clerk’s Office during sessions of the General Assembly of Virginia. She was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church, Richmond, Virginia and a dedicated choir member. She was a past First Lady of ACCA Shrine, 2005. A charter member for 25 years with LOSNA ACCABA Court 105 and High Priestess for the years 2004 & 2005. She danced in Lady Slippers. She was also the secretary of the PHP Club. 

Joy was a graduate of Manchester High School in Richmond, Virginia. She received an AA degree from Chowan College, Murfreesboro, North Carolina and in the later years of her life she went back to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Bluefield College, Bluefield, Virginia. 

 A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at Tomahawk Baptist Church, 12920 Hull Street Road, N., Midlothian, Virginia.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACCA Shriners Children’s Hospital Transportation Fund, 1712 Bellevue Avenue, Richmond, Virginia, 23227 or the Celiac Disease Foundation, www.Celiac.org.
