Kevin Joseph Brogan

September 3, 1961 – November 13, 2023

Kevin Joseph Brogan (62) went to be with our Lord, on Monday Nov 13, 2023. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond F. Brogan Sr, his uncle, William J. Brogan, and a nephew, Jacob Jenkins. He was born the ninth child of Rita and Raymond Brogan, Sr on Sept 3, 1961; graciously accepting his annual pencils as a birthday present from his siblings. He graduated from McLean High School, McLean, VA and the United States Merchant Marine Academy, King’s Point, NY (USMMA). He continued his education receiving a MS in Engineering Management and a PhD in Public Administration from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA.

He excelled in all things he put his mind to, from stamp collecting and varsity track in high school to collegiate athlete playing rugby at USMMA, and continued to stay in shape playing softball, running, and playing tennis after university. He, also, was an accomplished poet.

He started his career as an engineer with Northrop Grumman before branching out and becoming an independent consultant. He proudly served his country as a Merchant Mariner and a Navy Reservist as well as being involved in many political campaigns.

His love for comics combined with his compassionate nature fueled his drive for Hero Initiative, a charity to help comic creators facing financial hardships.  As the DC/Mid-Atlantic representative, he was very active in this cause and promoted it at shows from New York to Florida.

He was a great son, doting on his mother with many visits throughout the years, playing Rummikub with her, taking her and her friends on outings, baseball games at Tradition Ball Park and the many trips to Dunkin’. He was a great brother to his 11 siblings and their spouses, establishing warm relationships and memories with each one.  He never married, but spoiled all 24 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and his 32 grand nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his loving mother, Rita C. Brogan. His devoted brothers and sisters, Mary Ann Brogan, and her children, Jody Moore (Naveed), Colleen Moore (Giuseppe) and Zac Moore; Kathleen Brogan; Raymond Brogan Jr (Mariko) and their children, Miyoung Brogan (Mike), and Nam Brogan (Aki); Clare Bjorkman (John) and their children, Kirsten Bjorkman, Lauren Mulford (Felipe); and Nina Cole (Jon David); Patrick Brogan (Ann) and their children, Michael Brogan (Johanna), Liam Brogan and Meg Haynes (Ryan); Betty Lou Jenkins (Michael), and their son Andrew Jenkins; Eileen McConkie (Jim), and their children, Colin McConkie (Grace), Bridget Johnson (Cory) and Sean McConkie (Jen); Bill Brogan (Gabriela) and their children, Julieta Brogan and Conor Brogan; Marty Brogan (Andrea) and their children, Gaby Brogan, Emily Brogan, Hari Brogan and Dylan Brogan; Rose Mary Brogan (Brian Haney) and their children Jeremy Haney (Jena), Caleb Haney (Ali) and Saige Kelley (Patrick); and Joe Brogan (Shelly). He was loved by all.

The funeral will be November 20, 2023, at 10:00am at St Bernadette Catholic Church, 350 NW California Blvd, Port St Lucie, FL 34986. A celebration will be held at a later date at JV’s Restaurant in Arlington, VA.

In honor of Kevin’s devotion to comic artists, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hero Initiative (heroinitiative.org). Donations may also be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
