Larry Mason Payne, Jr.

Larry Mason Payne, Jr., better known as “Scooter,” passed peacefully in his sleep on January 18th, 2025.

He is survived by his daughters Jordan Olivia Payne and Dylan Whittier Payne, and girlfriend Bridgette Debenedictis. He was preceded in death by his wife and Dylan’s mom Amanda, father Larry Mason Payne Sr and his beloved mom “Nanny”, Sylvia Harlow. His early life and young adulthood were spent on the softball and football fields in Belmont, and he loved sharing his love for the games with his daughters. He was a lifelong Cowboys fan whether they were winning or losing, and you could often see him sporting their swag or the swag of the UVA Cavaliers. There was never a question of where you stood with Scooter, and he was always willing to share how he felt. He loved fiercely and most important to his him were his daughters. Scooter became a dad at 23 years old and for the next 30 years, until his death at 53, being a father was what he was most proud of and brought him consistent joy. He will continue to be with his daughters Jordan and Dylan as they work together to navigate this new life. While he will be missed by many of us who knew and loved him, he will forever remain in our hearts especially when we watch the Dallas Cowboys.

Please join us in a celebration of life for him at Belmont Pizza on Friday January 31, 2025, 2-6pm. Come have a drink and share a story with his family and friends. Both of his daughters will also be attending.
