Lillie Mae Bishop, 94, of Keswick, Virginia passed away at home on September 26, 2024.
She was born on May 16, 1930, in Louisa County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late James Lithwood Perkins Sr. and Lila Blanch Payne Perkins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Arthur “A.B.” Bishop; her daughter-in-law Delores S. Bishop of Richmond; brother James L. Perkins Jr. and his wife (sister-in-law) Dora Lee Perkins of Troy; her brother Roy D. Perkins Sr. and his former wife Lillie Mae Perkins of Louisa; sister-in-law Elnor Buck, and her husband Cary Buck of Charlottesville; sister-in-law Dorothy Brookman and her husband Harold Brookman of Charlottesville; Wallace “Wally” Thomas, a special and loving friend; and her nephew David B. Buck of Palmyra, Virginia.
She is survived by her son, James Robert Bishop, of Keswick; one loving and beautiful granddaughter, April Heather Bishop, of Keswick; her nephew Michael Perkins Sr. and wife Connie Perkins, of Palmyra; two nieces Virginia Brookman Edwards and husband Arthur Edwards of Clemmons, North Carolina; and Alison Waite and husband John Waite of Madison, Mississippi. There are other family and friends that will be remembered with much love.
Lillie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved working out in the yard in her flower gardens, going to the beach with her family and having Jesus Christ as part of her life. She was a member Mount View Baptist Church in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was a member of BPO Elks Lodge #389 and Doe Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. She retired from Centel in Charlottesville, Virginia after 42 years of service.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 1st at Mount View Baptist Church at 908 St. Clair Avenue, Charlottesville, Virginia. There will be a visitation at the church an hour prior to the service, from 10:00-11:00am for family and friends. Immediately following the service, there will be a graveside service at Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville. Pastor David Hallingshead will be officiating the service. Family and friends are invited back to the church for lunch.
A special thank you to all members of Hospice of the Piedmont that cared for Lillie during the final few days of her life.
