Lloyd Allen Martin

Lloyd Allen Martin, Jr., 87, passed away suddenly on July 21, 2024. Lloyd Jr., a dutiful son, husband, father, and grandfather, affectionately known as Dada, or Doonie, to his many friends. A pillar in the community, he was born and raised in his precious town of Cartersville, Virginia. 

He raised his beautiful family alongside his loving wife of 67 years, Edith Pleasants Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Allen and Lucille Martin; his oldest daughter, Cassandra; his sister, Elma Joyce King; and his son-in-law, JB Hodges. He is survived by his children, Charlene Hodges (JB), Allen Martin (Carole), Ollie Williams (Barron), Dawn Schmidt (Robert), and Harvey Martin (Jo); twelve grandchildren, James Lloyd Hodges (Sarah), Winston Hodges, Brittany Fehrle (Josh), Jennifer Martin, Cassie Tyson (Brandon), Braden Williams (Sara Beth), Emi Williams, Taylor Angle (North), Kendall Tharpe (Cameron), Abbie Schmidt, Kilby Cumbea and Kennedy Martin. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Gray Robinson. He leaves behind his growing family of 12 great-grandchildren with two on the way. They will forever carry on his legacy of love for Jesus and family. 

Lloyd Jr. wore many hats in his beloved community, including business owner of Martin & Dabney, service in the National Guard, Cumberland magistrate, Cumberland Electoral Board, and founding member of the Cartersville Volunteer Fire Department serving many years as the Fire Chief, deacon of Cartersville Baptist Church, and a Cartersville Ruritan Club charter member. He was most joyful dancing with Edith, hosting family dinners at his house, watching family and friends enjoy his swimming pool, and cheering on any college sport. He believed in the Master’s plan, and we know he is at home rejoicing. 

A celebration of Lloyd Jr’s life will be held on Thursday, August 1st at Cartersville Baptist Church, Cartersville VA starting with visitation at 1:00 p.m. and service at 2:00 p.m., with graveside following.
