Mattie V. Proffitt

Mattie Hughes Vineyard Proffitt, “Nanny”, 85, passed away at her home in Goochland County, on December 5, 2023.

She is preceded in death by her father John Hughes, her mother and stepfather, Mattie and Leslie Haynes, her brother John Hughes, Maynard “Willie” Hughes, Vernon “Brannie” Hughes, her sisters, Mamie Poore, Martha “Skitter” Huff, her first husband Norman Vineyard and her second husband, Charles Proffit.

She is survived by her children, Norman “Boozel” (Kay), Cochie and Norma Jean, her four grandchildren: Jason, Rachel, Tiffany, and Chris; her eight great-grandchildren, numerous great great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

She was a fun, hardworking and generous mother who loved her family very much and was always there for them. She will be missed by all of us and everyone who knew her.

There will be no services at this time.
