She was born on May 9, 1923, in Fluvanna County, to the late John P. and Elizabeth Fowler Bland. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Walter and Charles Lee; and a sister who passed at a younger age. She eventually relocated to New York, where she attended Metropolitan School of Infant and Geriatric Care when she became a Practical Infant and Geriatric Care Nurse. She later attended York College to become a Real Estate Agent. She was a woman of many talents and had a strong work ethic, which she instilled into her family. Upon her retirement, she returned home to her family home place in Fluvanna, where she lived out her golden years being a grandmother, an active member of the community and a member of her church choir. "She was a wonderful and resilient mother and grandmother and she is leaving a vacancy that can never be filled, she will be missed greatly; we love you Ma."
