Geraldine "Jerrie" Kalani Smethurst, 77, entered the gates of Heaven on July 12, 2022. She was born on May 20, 1945 to James and Laverne Cope in Honolulu, Hawaii. Jerrie graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1963. She married Richard Smethurst on January 8, 1965 and they had three daughters, Debbie, Susie and Beckie.
Jerrie worked as a talented beautician in her early years and a loving pre-school teacher. She also worked as an Events Manager and Wedding Coordinator for both the Lake Monticello Homeowner’s Association and Prospect Hill Inn, where she later retired. The job she treasured most was being a devoted mother and grandmother to her three girls and nine grandchildren.
Jerrie was an avid crafter and expert floral arranger. Her talented designs and creations graced the homes of numerous family members and friends. She also enjoyed spending time in her garden and seasonal decorating. Jerrie was an amazing cook; her homemade carrot cake and chocolate-covered strawberries were always something everyone looked forward to with great anticipation at family celebrations. Jerrie and her sisters were close-knit and she loved their adventures. She enjoyed shopping and her daughters, grandchildren and husband were always the lucky recipients of her bargain finds. Jerrie was the loudest cheerleader at her grandchildren’s games, matches, meets and races. You name it, she was the best football, baseball, softball, volleyball, swim, golf, cross country, track and fishing fan there ever was! She was a loyal supporter and our family’s athletes could always count on her passionate spirit. Her family was her everything!
Jerrie is survived by her husband, Richard Smethurst; their three daughters, Debbie, Susie and Beckie; three sons-in-law, Jeff, Chris and Patches; nine grandchildren, Austin, Logan, Aidan, Lauren, Savannah, Landon, Perri, Jules and Lathan; sisters, Arlene (Jose’), Sharlene and Roxene (Howard); sister-in-law, Carol (Tom); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Darlene; her parents, James and Laverne Cope; and her parents-in-law, Dorothy and Russell Smethurst.
