Maria Summers, 35, left this world a better place. Her devoted faith guided her compassion with integrity and grace which made her a true angel on earth. While she suffered many physical obstacles and the alienation from many for being “different”, the only true difference was her unlimited capacity to love and treat others with a personal touch that made them feel special. Her laugh was infectious, and her wit was sharp and clever. Maria loved her family, friends, co-workers and patients and would put others’ needs above her own.
Her love and respect for children is evident by the lifelong relationships she maintained with the Bowman and Alexander families among many others she has nurtured through church and her volunteerism with Comfort Zone Camp. She also dedicated time to mission trips in the U.S., Haiti and Morocco. She earned her BS degree in Biochemistry at Randolph-Macon College in 2010 and her RN/BSN at Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing in 2013. Maria worked as a nurse manager for the Outpatient Infusion Center at St. Mary’s hospital in Richmond, VA before moving to UVA Health in Fishersville, VA in the spring of 2022. She was always thankful for the friendships and support from her co-workers and left a mark on many of her patients as well.
Maria is loved fiercely by her parents and siblings, two nieces, three nephews, two grandfathers, ten aunts and uncles, seventeen cousins and twenty-one second cousins. Many lifelong friends from Williamsburg and the Eastern Shore should also be considered extended family. These relationships are a testament to Maria’s light, love, and impact in this world. She is now soaring with the eagles – fly high, sweet Maria!
