Sylvia Johnson died July 5, 2024, at UVA Medical Center, Charlottesville, VA after a brief illness.
A native of Vienna, Fairfax County, VA, she was born at Georgetown Hospital in Washington, DC 85 years ago. For the last 45 years she had been a resident of both Cismont, VA and more recently Scottsville, VA.
She was a 1957 graduate of Fairfax High School where she was president of the Bible Club and a member of the Women's Field Hockey team.
She attended Northern Virginia Community College and was a gifted office manager/bookkeeper for more than 50 years. She retired from Oakland School in Boyd Tavern, VA where she had worked for 20 years as the Administrator. She remained active in retirement volunteering at the Senior Skippers Club in Scottsville, VA and JABA at the Yancey School.
A lifelong Christian, she was a founding member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Fairfax, VA and former member of Grace Episcopal Church in Cismont, VA where she served on the Vestry.
She loved to knit and crochet. She was an avid reader and square dancer. Above all she loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother. She is survived by her three children, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother, and several dear friends.
Final arrangements will follow and are being handled by Sheridan Funeral Home, Kent’s Store, VA.
