Virginia Carol Harrison

Virginia Carol Harrison (79) of Charlottesville was greeted in Heaven by her loved ones on January 25, 2025, after an extended illness. Carol was born on July 29, 1945 in Williamson, West Virginia, to Warren H. and Mary Maynard Harrison. She is preceded in death by her parents, her youngest niece, Jane Ellen McDaniel Aschenauer, and her beloved brother in-law, James T. McDaniel. Carol is survived by her beloved cat Gizmo, sister Maxine and nephew Tommy McDaniel of Mechanicsville; her niece Lynn and husband Greg Wingen of Richmond, her family of the heart Scott, Tram, Chloe, and Jaxx Ngo of Glen Allen, many distant cousins/relatives, and many dear friends.

Upon moving to Charlottesville in 1969, at the age of 24, Carol began her work career as a circuit breaker assembler at Earlysville's Murray Panorama where she continued her employment tenure for more than 25+ years with the Siemens Corporation, after their acquisition of the Earlysville based company. To support herself after Siemens closed their Virginia operation, Carol began working for Krispy Creme Donuts in the morning and at Roses on Pantops, in the evenings and weekends, for many years. Her last position, until she retired in 2020, at the age of 74, was with the Charlottesville City School System as a "lunch lady," working in the cafeterias of many of the City's Schools. Carol helped prepare and serve breakfast and lunch to the K-12 student population. Her happiest and most cherished memories were those from her daily interactions with the students, especially her "Babies" from the kindergarten and elementary levels.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to the nursing staff of UVA's Medical Intensive Care Unit, on 4 West, for the exceptional care they provided to Carol, during the 16 days she was a patient in their Unit. The uplifting personal support they provided to Carol's niece, Lynn was indescribable and their compassionate concern will not be forgotten. Special thanks to Judy Burcham and husband Troy for their unselfish love and care for both Carol and Gizmo, and to Carol's angel neighbors, Marie and Joe Davenport for their love, kindness, and continuous friendship during the last 30 years.

Carol was deeply loved by her family and her presence in our lives will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, February 8th, at Lyles Baptist Church, 92 Lyles Church Lane, Palmyra with interment to immediately follow at the church cemetery.
